Geeky sites of the week

30 years of LucasFilm Christmas Cards
Alas, I'm not on the Lucasfilm Holiday Card List. But if I was, these were the cards I would've received over the past 30 years. Geektastic.

Google Maps Mania
An unofficial Google Maps blog tracking the websites, mashups and tools being influenced by Google Maps.

The Art of Digital Black and White
I enjoy B&W photography because it's an excellent medium to express textures, shapes and moods. There's a certain elegence to it that color photography lacks. This site has a few good tutorials that teach some digital B&W techniques, including multiple techniques of digital color-to-B&W conversion.

Alien Loves Predator
Alien and Predator are roommates in a Manhattan apartment. They live life as regular New Yorkers and spend their time in places such as coffee shops or Chinese takeout joints. Hilarity ensues. Especially when they try speed dating.

Photography-related sites

Strobist
Here's an excellent resource on photographic lighting with a single flash. Lighting, strangely enough, is often forgotten by many amateur photographers. However, lighting is probably the single most important element of photography, far more important than the camera you use.

The Online Photographer
A nice little photography-based blog for 24 hour photo nuts.

Fred Miranda
An interesting little site on digital photo manipulation.

Photo.Net tutorials
A great collection of tutorials for studio, portrait, landscape, concert and other types of photography. This is a nice resource when you're learning various techniques in image capture. Most of the articles are geared towards film, but are also applicable to digital.

About Me

Tom
I just take what life throws at me and run with it, as long as I don't cause too much damage along the way. That kinda gets expensive.
